GIPAW ListServer
The mission and use of the GIPAW ListServer is an extension of the mission of GIPAW:
- Promote the effective, responsible management of information technology to the benefit of its members, their employers, and society.
- Keep the members' knowledge up to date and ensure that proper expertise is available when needed.
- Share knowledge with each other and present factual and objective information to management.
- Cooperate with one another in achieving, understanding, and identifying problems and concerns affecting the advancement of the data processing field.
- Provide data processing professionals opportunities for regular interaction.
The GIPAW ListServer will provide a mechanism for active GIPAW members to have ongoing dialog about factual and objective information on managing information technology. It is a place to share knowledge with each other and provide GIPAW professionals opportunity for regular interaction.
For example, members can post a question to the membership asking if anyone has experience with some particular software. I was recently asked what I knew regarding local agencies' experiences with credit card transactions on the Internet. This question would have been a great one to pose to the entire GIPAW group. Other jurisdictions struggling with the same issue could have been involved in the discussion and been sharing their experiences.
So as to not lose the value of the listserver discussions, there will be an archive of the GIPAW ListServer that will be made available to active GIPAW members.
